Getting the Right Golf Equipment for a Junior Golf Player

The game of golf has for years been the domain of middle aged men who spent their summer afternoons on the golf course with their bosses and coworkers carefully negotiating deals and talking business. That all changed in the last few years as the popularity of golf soared due to the number of younger players on the professional tour circuit.

With this sudden surge of interest many major makers of golf equipment have begun to offer lines of junior golf equipment that are every bit as good as the gear that they make for the adults.

When your child first comes to you and says that he wants to learn how to play golf, most parents' first reaction is to run out to their local discount superstore and grab a set of inexpensive junior golf equipment. The biggest problem with this is that much of this gear is exactly what it seems to be, in golf much like anything else you get what you pay for. In some cases it might be OK for you to buy some of your child's golf accessories there but even that is not a very good idea.

When it comes to buying the right type of equipment for a junior golf player there are two ways to make sure that you buy the most appropriate type of equipment for your child. You can go to your local pro shop and spend a fair amount of money buying the brands that they carry or you can shop online at a discount golf equipment site. Either will work very well but shopping online can save you a lot of money and you can buy everything that your local pro shop has and more.

The most important thing that a parent needs to realize is that there is a big difference between junior golf equipment and the gear that is made to be used by adults. The equipment that is made for younger players is sized to fit them. Not only are the clubs shorter but the heads are usually lighter to allow them to develop the appropriate amount or power for their size. Often junior golf clubs feature graphite shafts that have more flex built into them to help gift each shot more distance without having to use as much power in each swing.

Clubs are not the only thing when it comes to junior golf equipment; today there are entire lines of shoes, bags, trolleys and other golf accessories that are directly made for the younger player. Much of this equipment is made to look just like the gear carried by your child's favorite player in the PGA complete with the appropriate colors and logos.

In some cases the players on the professional circuit have worked with some of the best manufacturers to create lines of junior golf equipment that are direct replicas of the stuff carried by the pros on tour. They are designed to work the same and look the same only smaller to help your young golfer make his way onto the pro circuit.
