Junior Golf Shoes
Choosing a Good Pair of Junior Golf Shoes
Since a good game of
golf means spending a great deal of time on your feet buying your child the right type of junior golf shoes is
almost as important as choosing the right pair of golf
clubs.
The golf shoe is
considered to be the cornerstone of your shot as they are the anchor point for your swing. If you do not have a
good pair of golf shoes, chances are good you are missing out on a lot of power and accuracy in each shot and
your game will suffer.
There are dozens of different styles of junior golf shoes to choose from, which can make
choosing the right pair a little difficult and confusing.
The traditional golf shoe uses a series of long steel spikes to help the golfer keep his feet
firmly planted on the ground; however this has been changing in the last few years. There are several reasons
for the demise of the steel spike, not the least of which is the fact that many golf courses are starting to ban
them as they tend to do a lot of damage along the fairways and most especially on the greens.
Today the more
popular choice is the soft rubber or plastic spike, modern technology has advanced these spikes to the point
where they can now provide the same amount of grip as the steel spikes without causing anywhere near the amount
of damage. They are also a lot more comfortable to wear especially when the player has to walk across hard
surfaces such as golf cart tracks and parking lots.
Some players are
experimenting with spikeless shoes; these look similar to the standard athletic shoe and can be very
comfortable. As far as wearing them while playing golf, they seem to work well as long as playing conditions and
the turf is dry. However when things are wet they lose traction which can result in a really poor
swing.
When it comes to
comfort and style there are several choices that can be made in junior golf shoes to put in your golf bag. The most important thing to consider when buying a golf shoe or for that
matter any other shoe is comfort. Eighteen holes of golf can mean a lot of walking and if your shoes are not
comfortable it can be a long day. Make sure that when you are shopping for your new golf shoes you have your
foot measured for both length and width to ensure that you get the right fit.
Leather is still the
number one choice in materials for junior golf shoes as it is waterproof and very durable. The leather shoe also
tends to be the most breathable helping to keep your foot cool and dry in the summer heat. Newer athletic shoes
styles are starting to become popular, but they generally do not last as long and for most people are very hot
in the summer. Golf shoes come in a variety of styles from shoes to sandals and even boots, just
make sure that the pair you buy are the most comfortable you can find as the
18th hole is a long
way from the tee at the first hole.
